Students from INTI International College Penang’s Centre for Australian Degree Programs (CADP) continued their collaboration with VeecoTech Penang through another beach cleanup held on 6 May 2025.
The recent effort marked the third joint initiative between CADP and VeecoTech since the partnership began in 2024. A total of 25 students and two lecturers participated in the activity, collecting 15 kilogrammes of waste from Penang’s shoreline, reinforcing INTI’s strong emphasis on experiential learning and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) values.

“This collaboration is a powerful example of how our students are taking the lead in building a more sustainable future,” said Hemalatha Murugiah, Chief Executive of INTI International College Penang. “By working together with industry partners like VeecoTech, our students are gaining real-world exposure while reinforcing INTI’s commitment to nurturing socially responsible and globally minded graduates.”
Among the items collected were plastic cups, shoes, a discarded cooking pot, and even a flowerpot, highlighting the need for continuous public awareness about waste disposal.
“Everyone just rolled up their sleeves and kept going,” said Yeow Ze Sheng, a student from INTI’s CADP – Bachelor of Business (3+0) program in collaboration with Swinburne University of Technology, Australia (BBSUT), and the project lead. “That’s the spirit of real change.”
Yeow described the initiative as an eye-opening experience. “I’ve always loved the ocean, and leading this initiative made me realise the power of small actions in creating big change. Seeing a cleaner beach at the end of the day was incredible.”
Dr. Gan Kia Hui, Head of Program and Lecturer at CADP, highlighted the significance of sustainability initiatives in education. “ESG-focused activities are crucial in bridging academic learning with real-world impact. They help students develop critical thinking, leadership, and teamwork while fostering a sense of responsibility toward society and the environment. These are the values we aim to instil at INTI.”
VeecoTech, a tech company based in Penang with a strong ESG framework, has been an active collaborator in the beach cleanups. “Partnering with students on initiatives like these not only helps clean our coastlines but also inspires the next generation to be sustainability leaders,” said Alain Lye, CEO of VeecoTech Solutions Sdn. Bhd.
Through this continued collaboration with VeecoTech, INTI students are gaining firsthand exposure to the practical side of sustainability, learning not just in classrooms, but through real action.
